The Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office has created a department to support victims of war crimes.
This was reported by the press service of the agency.
It is noted that support for victims and witnesses of war crimes in Ukraine is due to the challenges of today.
«People who faced the horrors of war should receive the necessary help, adequate support, and their rights and legitimate interests should be protected and restored,» the message reads.
The department was created to ensure interaction between victims and investigators in specific criminal proceedings based on the facts of war crimes.
They will also protect the interests of particularly vulnerable population groups, such as victims of conflict-related sexual violence, children, etc.
«The department works with victims or witnesses of war crimes who already have the appropriate procedural status. Interaction with victims and witnesses is carried out only with their consent and in compliance with the principle of confidentiality. Such persons always have the right to refuse further cooperation,» the message reads.
We will remind that as of January 2024, 12 cases of torture of civilians by the occupiers were recorded on the territory of the Mykolaiv region.
