Defense measures will be strengthened in the ports of Odesa

In the seaports of Odesa, defense measures will be increased, as well as personnel safety and infrastructure will be restored.

This was announced by Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, Minister of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, the department's press service reports.

Oleksii Kuleba emphasized that the stable operation of Ukrainian ports and the sea corridor is the key to food stability in the world. Therefore, the issue of security of ports, personnel and vessels is a priority.

«We are strengthening defense measures in every port. We are implementing additional measures that will increase the level of defense capability and security. It is also necessary to provide additional protection for the personnel of enterprises on the territory of the seaport, including the arrangement of locations with mobile shelters. In addition, funds will be allocated for the restoration of the infrastructure of the Odessa port. In particular, this will include the modernization of key facilities and strengthening of the general security of port areas,» he said.

According to the Ministry of Reconstruction, 86 ships are currently waiting to approach the ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi, which are supposed to export almost 2 million tons of cargo.

We will remind that as a result of shelling of Odesa on October 6, a dry cargo civilian ship was damaged. People were not injured.

And on October 14, the Russian army attacked the port infrastructure of Odesa with a ballistic missile. One person died, eight others were injured.

On October 17, Ukraine officially appealed to the International Maritime Organization to urgently send an international monitoring mission to the ports of Great Odesa against the background of intensified Russian terror.
