More than 40% of teachers are determined to leave the profession by 2030. It is predicted that there will be a shortage of 108,000 teachers, but this figure may be much higher.

This is evidenced by the results of the study «Teachers of Ukraine: personnel potential», which was conducted by the Osvitoria GS and the research agency FAMA, which involved more than 10,000 teachers and students.

According to the research data, with the beginning of the full-scale war, the teaching staff decreased by 12% — that's almost 40 thousand teachers. The outflow is especially felt in the frontline regions, such as Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Mykolaiv regions.

There is also a significant gap between teachers of humanitarian and technical fields — the latter are one and a half times less.

It is noted that the average age of teachers is 45 years, while 30% of teachers are of pre-retirement and retirement age. While the share of teachers under the age of 30 is only 10%. 86% of Ukrainian teachers are women.

Most teachers point to low pay as one of the main reasons for demotivation. And only 12% of teachers are satisfied with the level of wages. Only 47% of teachers are satisfied with their work. At the same time, 94% spoke in favor of reducing the bureaucratic burden.

At the same time, the absolute majority — 80% of teachers — feel that society does not appreciate their work.

According to the research, there is a great demand for professional development among teachers. In particular, 73% want to improve their English. And 58% noted that they need to improve their knowledge of first aid.

In addition, 43% of teachers seek to improve their knowledge of the Ukrainian language. At the same time, nine out of ten avoid using Russian even in cases where it could help explain the material more precisely.

According to the Institute of Educational Analytics, as of the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, almost 393,000 teaching staff worked in Ukrainian educational institutions.
of them, more than 282,000 are involved in children's education.

We would like to remind you that from January 1, 2025, teachers will receive a monthly supplement to their salary in the amount of one thousand hryvnias. And from September 1, 2025, this additional payment will be increased to two thousand hryvnias.

Earlier it was reported that the deputies of the city council plan to appeal to the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with a call to raise the salaries of teachers in Mykolaiv.

In addition, there is a shortage of teachers of various subjects in the Mykolayiv region. Educational institutions are most in need of teachers of chemistry, physics and biology.
