Today, November 19, an exhibition dedicated to the 1000th day of the full-scale war in Ukraine was opened in the House of Fleet Officers (DOF) in Mykolaiv.
The exhibition presents personal belongings of captured and missing soldiers, as well as exhibits reflecting the everyday life of Ukrainians during the war, the correspondent of NikVesti reports.
Most of the paintings depicted tragic episodes of shelling and airstrikes on various objects in Mykolaiv.
The opening of the exhibition was attended by military personnel, police and Mykolaiv officials. City Mayor Oleksandr Sienkovych and Regional Council Chairman Anton Tabunshchyk thanked the Armed Forces of Ukraine for their contribution to the defense of the state.
«Thank you to all Ukrainians who, from the first day of the full-scale invasion, remained steadfast, remained in their places and worked for our victory. Russia disposes of its junk, its military and others that no one has ever mentioned. We are losing the best. These are the golden fleets of the nation, these are the sons and daughters who give their lives so that we have the opportunity to plan and move forward,» said Anton Tabunshchyk.
In his speech, the mayor emphasized that it is important to remember the prisoners in Russia and to talk to children about the value of peace.
«You and I must remember especially those who are in captivity, because there every day stretches like a thousand days. Unfortunately, not everyone was taught something by this war and these thousands of days. Unfortunately, we do not study. Unfortunately, our children do not understand what war is. Because we are trying to distance them from it, to create conditions for them to study. They will not have hatred for our enemies and they will not know the price of this peace, which we are all waiting for,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.
Mykolaiv activist and musician Volodymyr Aleksieiev recalled that at one time it was DOF that became the place that united hundreds of caring citizens who volunteered, prepared Molotov cocktails, and brought humanitarian aid and aid for the military there.
«For me personally, the history of the war began with the video of Vitalii Kim, who said: «Everyone who does not want to live in the Russian Mykolaiv, and everyone who cares about our future - we invite you to come to the DOF.» I was one of the first to care. And now 1000 days have passed, and this place has become a center that has united thousands of Mykolaivites, where everyone is in his place. Some did big, some did little. In the first days, these people built roadblocks and prevented the Russians from entering the city. We are not celebrating 1,000 days, we are reminding how DOF became a symbol of Mykolaiv's indomitability, Mykolaiv became one of the symbols of Ukraine's indomitability, and Ukraine and Ukrainians became a symbol of indomitability for the whole world. Our indifference allowed us to endure not three or four days, but a whole thousand days,» said Volodymyr Aleksieiev.
