52% of Ukrainians are in favor of a quick end to the war through negotiations. At the same time, 38% believe that Ukraine should continue to fight for victory.

This is evidenced by polls conducted by Gallup in August and October 2024 in Ukraine.

According to research, the mood of Ukrainians has changed. Thus, after the start of a full-scale invasion of Russia in 2022, 73% of Ukrainians supported the struggle until complete victory.

However, as early as 2023, this indicator dropped to 63%, while support for negotiations increased to 27%. In 2024, for the first time, the majority, 52% of citizens, are in favor of negotiations.

Support for the continuation of the war decreased in all regions, regardless of proximity to the front. In particular, in the east of Ukraine, where the hostilities continue the most, 63% of residents support peace talks, while only 27% believe that the fight should continue.

At the same time, support for the continuation of the war fell by 39 points in Kyiv, and by 40 points in the western regions. According to researchers, this demonstrates a strong increase in war fatigue even in regions far from the front.

According to studies, Ukrainians have changed their attitude to the return of territories. Thus, in 2022 and 2023, 92-93% of Ukrainians who supported the struggle believed that victory meant the return of all territories, including Crimea. Although this figure remains quite high in 2024, it has dropped to 81%.

It is noted that a large part of Ukrainians, who support a quick end to the war through negotiations, are sure that Ukraine should be ready to cede territory in order to achieve peace.

Specifically, 52% of this group agree with this approach, while 38% oppose it and 10% are still undecided. Gallup did not specify the level of territorial concessions that Ukrainians would be ready for.

Gallup reported that in 2023 and 2024, part of the occupied territories were not included in the study due to the lack of coverage by Ukrainian mobile operators. These territories make up about 10-12% of the total population.

It was previously reported that according to the results of a survey conducted from September 20 to October 3 by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, 63% of Ukrainians are ready to endure the war as long as necessary.
