A teenager from the Odesa region became a posthumous organ donor, saving the lives of five seriously ill patients from different parts of Ukraine. Thus, a lung transplant was performed on a 35-year-old mother of five from the Mykolaiv region.
As reported by the press service of the Odesa RMA, organ explantation for transplantation to patients who had been waiting for donations for years was carried out at the Zakharivka Hospital.
It is noted that on November 28, a 13-year-old boy was hospitalized with a diagnosis of acute cerebral circulation disorder. On December 4, doctors diagnosed him with brain death. His parents made a difficult decision and agreed to donate.
«Sincere condolences to the boy's family and immense gratitude for their noble choice that saved five lives,» the message says.
A heart transplant was performed on an 8-year-old boy from Dnipropetrovsk region. Kidneys were transplanted on a 9-year-old boy from Lviv and a 6-year-old child from Vinnytsia region. A liver transplant was performed on a 17-year-old girl from Kyiv.
The operations were performed by specialists from the Heart Institute, Okhmatdyt, the Kyiv Center for Nephrology, and the Western Ukrainian Specialized Center in Lviv.
All transplants were reported to be successful, and the recipients are in stable condition. Treatment is funded by the state under the Medical Guarantees Program.
We will remind you that in November of this year, a unique heart surgery was performed in an Odesa hospital, broadcast in real time. The process was monitored by doctors from different countries.
