Shevchenkove community sets up new shelter as children prepare to return to school after four years

An underground school has been opened in Tsentralne village, Shevchenkove community, in Mykolaiv region. Now students who have been forced to study online for more than four years in a row due to the pandemic and war will be able to attend school.

This was reported by the press service of the international charitable foundation savED.

In 2022, Tsentralne village was under Russian occupation for eight months.

«Due to the full-scale war and pandemic, students have been attending classes online for more than four years in a row. This has affected both students' academic performance and their communication and interaction skills,» the foundation noted.

Therefore, an underground school was set up for the children so that they could study offline, communicate with each other, and have safe leisure activities.

It is noted that the renovation and arrangement of the educational space in the shelter cost over 5.5 million hryvnias. The funds were raised by international organizations, as well as volunteers in the Netherlands and even Ukrainian schoolchildren abroad.

«In particular, teenager Miloslav Tkach and his peers, who were forcibly evacuated to Great Britain during the war, raised over 10,000 pounds among caring foreigners,» the report says.

Thus, on December 6, on the occasion of the opening of the educational space and St. Nicholas Day, a festive event was organized. A Christmas tree was set up for the children, gifts were given, and educational workshops and motivational lectures were organized.

We remind you that on December 7, a shelter was opened in one of the gymnasiums in Mykolaiv. Now 250 students will be able to study offline.
