Russia destroys and damages almost 250 cultural sites in Mykolaiv region

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Russian army has destroyed 24 cultural institutions in Mykolaiv region, and another 223 have been damaged.
This was reported by Olena Buberenko, head of the Department of Culture, Nationalities and Religions of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, during a briefing on 12 February, NikVesti.
These include 145 cultural and educational institutions, including:
- 66 libraries, of which 13 were destroyed;
- 57 clubs (9 destroyed);
- 12 art schools (2 destroyed);
- 7 museums, 2 theatres and 1 zoo.
In addition, 56 religious buildings were damaged, five of which were almost completely destroyed. The shelling also damaged 46 cultural heritage sites, including 24 monuments of architecture, history and monumental art (3 destroyed) and 22 archaeological sites.
Three cultural institutions remain on the temporarily occupied territory.
Despite the significant losses, 41 cultural infrastructure facilities that have been damaged by shelling since 24 February 2022 have been fully or partially restored in the region.
We remind you that in Mykolaiv, the Ministry of Culture has ordered that 8 sites be stripped of their historical monument status. They were deemed not eligible for inclusion in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine.
