After the New Year holidays, the Mykolaiv Zoo no longer uses Christmas trees brought by citizens for animals. Now such trees are not installed in enclosures and are not given for food — they are accepted exclusively for chopping into wood chips.

This is described in the article NikVesti .

Zoo director Volodymyr Topchyi explained that only trees that have not been sold are used for animals. At the same time, trees from private homes are not brought into the enclosures because of the possible danger.

«We do not need to hand over the trees. We receive trees that have not been sold, and we place them in the enclosures — some of them serve as fodder for animals. We do not take Christmas trees from homes, because we do not know where and in what conditions they were kept. We have never accepted them for animals before. We can only use such trees for processing into wood chips, but they are not used for animals,» said Volodymyr Topchyi.

According to him, the trees that are still left at the zoo's gates are immediately sent for chipping.

«You mean that Christmas trees are no longer allowed to be brought to the zoo because of security?» the journalist asked.

«Yes, but what is brought to the gate, we immediately take to the crusher and process it into wood chips,» the zoo director replied.

Earlier, after the New Year holidays, the director of the Mykolaiv zoo, Volodymyr Topchyi , called on citizens to bring them Christmas trees, which were given to some of the animals that enjoyed them.
