An interactive map of household waste containers located throughout the city has been developed in Mykolaiv. This helps to track their number and determine where it needs to be increased.

This was announced in a comment to NikVesti by Dmytro Kanarskyi, head of the standardisation and e-government implementation department of the Mykolaiv City Council.

With the help of the interactive map, Mykolaiv residents can find out which waste containers are assigned to their building, he explained.

«Anyone who wants to see which site their house belongs to will be able to do so. As far as I know, it is possible to visually see the number of houses that are linked to a particular site, and this is reflected in the size of the icon,» said Dmytro Kanarskyi.

The interactive map, he added, also helps to monitor the situation with rubbish bins and determine where their number needs to be increased.

«And you can also see the approximate number of litres of waste bin capacity per square metre of living space. Why is this analysis necessary? So that you can understand that here, for example, there are not enough bins for waste collection. This map helps you see if there is a problem at all, if the data is filled in correctly. That is, the relevant municipal enterprise is responsible for filling in the information,» said Dmytro Kanarskyi.

In response to an information request from NikVesti, the city council reported that no funds from the Mykolaiv budget were spent on developing the interactive map.

«According to the accounting records of the executive committee of the Mykolaiv City Council, no funds from the Mykolaiv city budget were spent on the creation of an interactive map of household waste containers,» the response said.

Dmytro Kanarskyi also added that the city authorities do not currently plan to create new interactive maps, as there is no demand for them.

«Not at the moment, we already have a certain number of them. This should happen on request, that is, if, for example, a municipal enterprise or a structural unit considers it necessary to structure and visualise certain information, then we help with this. The mayor is often the initiator. This is because he is very familiar with IT and understands how to visualise and structure information in order to process and analyse it,» he added.

In total, there are currently 1,237 rubbish bins in Mykolaiv, serving 5,353 houses, according to data from the interactive map. The map is available at the link.
