Everything is in a state of disrepair, starting with the benches: residents of Mykolaiv are calling for the dilapidated children’s playground to be repaired

In Mykolaiv, the playground on 20 Kolodiazna Street has long been in need of repair. Many of the structures there are broken, posing a danger to children. However, residents of nearby buildings say that the facilities have not been maintained for a long time.

NikVesti investigated whether the city plans to repair this playground and when this might happen.

The playground is surrounded by several high-rise blocks, so children come here from various estates. However, the condition of the structures shows that they are unsafe, not just unsightly.

On the playground, you can see broken benches, a rubbish bin that looks more like a rusty tin can with a hole in the bottom, and rusty springs on the ship.

There is sand at the bottom of both sandpits.

On the swings and the maze where children run, the planks are broken off — a child’s foot could get stuck there. In some places the planks lie on the ground, in others they stick out with sharp edges.

All the structures are covered in graffiti and haven’t seen a paintbrush in ages, just like the slide and the roundabout.

Olena, a local resident who was at the playground with her child, told NikVesti that she remembers this playground from almost 10 years ago. And it has been in its current state for about five years now.

«I’ve lived here for five years, and it’s been in this state for all five,» said Olena.

She added that the last time they saw sand on the playground was the year before last. And it was up to Olena’s husband, who is in the military, to repair the maze structure.

«My husband would come back from his post and patch up these gaps where the planks are missing himself. Because my child fell once and seriously injured their leg. It’s a shame that such a large playground, which serves almost all the buildings, is in this state, yet nobody does anything about it. Everything here is broken, starting with the benches,» said Olena.

On social media, residents have also drawn attention to the playground’s dilapidated state, including Veronika Sharkova.

Ihor Holovatyi, Director of the municipal enterprise «Pilot Single Customer Directorate», confirmed to NikVesti that the playground is on their company’s books. They have also received complaints regarding its condition.

«Work is planned for April this year,» said Ihor Holovatyi.

As a reminder, residents of Mykolaiv have also complained about the dilapidated state of the children’s playground and basketball court on Kazarskoho Street, as well as the playground on Buznyka Street. At the latter, a child was injured by metal bars.

Previously, residents of Mykolaiv complained about the dangerous condition of the football pitch in the municipal courtyard on Okeanivska Street and asked for the dilapidated structures to be removed.

We should add that in 2026, the municipal enterprise «Pilot» plans to carry out routine repairs on at least 150 children’s playgrounds and sports grounds in Mykolaiv.
