The running tracks at the Central City Stadium are in a terrible state. It is not enough simply to resurface them. However, there is currently no money available for this.
Viacheslav Misarenko of the municipal institution Central City Stadium spoke about this during a live broadcast, according to NikVesti.
Vyacheslav Misarenko reported that footballers, young cyclists preparing to take to the road, and track and field athletes train at the Central City Stadium during the warmer months. However, the running tracks need to be repaired.
«We can all see the state they’re in. We’d very much like to repair the tracks, which are in a truly dreadful condition following the rocket strikes on the stadium grounds,» noted Viacheslav Misarenko.
He added that they had approached specialists from other cities who, among other things, construct tracks in accordance with Athletics Federation standards. Simply replacing the track surface is not enough.
«In addition to new surfacing, the geometry needs to be changed: some radii do not meet modern requirements. We need to redesign the configuration of the tracks, the base beneath them, and the surfacing itself. But this requires a huge amount of money,» noted the stadium director.
According to Viacheslav Misarenko, they have approached donors for help with repairing the tracks. But so far, there has been no positive outcome.
Currently, the running tracks are in the worst condition closer to the stadium’s administrative building. In some places, they are covered with patches. However, there is also damage on the opposite side of the field.
As a reminder, on 28 June 2022, Mykolaiv was hit by a missile strike. An S-300 missile fired by the Russian army struck the pitch, creating a crater and causing damage to the fence and structures located near the stadium pitch.
The running tracks have still not been repaired.
