Since the start of 2026, a campaign has been underway in Mykolaiv to provide free vaccination for girls against human papillomavirus (HPV). In the first quarter of the year, 1,100 girls have already received the vaccine.
This was announced by Iryna Shamrai, head of the Mykolaiv Health Department, during a live broadcast on Facebook, according to NikVesti.
She emphasised that HPV is the cause of 90% of cervical cancer cases, which ranks among the leading causes of mortality among women in Ukraine. Vaccination is most effective before the onset of sexual activity, which is why doctors advise getting vaccinated during adolescence.
«If your child is about to turn 13, please do not delay. Contact your family doctor. The vaccine is completely free and guaranteed by the state,» emphasised Iryna Shamrai.
The vaccine is currently available. To book a vaccination, you must contact the clinic at your place of registration or the doctor with whom you have signed a declaration.
As a reminder, 155,989 vaccinations were administered in the Mykolaiv region last year. And from this year, there is a new requirement — compulsory vaccination against human papillomavirus for girls.
