At the Central City Cemetery, known to Mykolaiv residents as Mishkovsky, there are no burial plots left in the honour section. It has been proposed to expand the cemetery grounds by moving the fence.

Serhii Vaseleha, director of the Mykolaiv Funeral Service, spoke about this in a comment to NikVesti.

The director of the funeral service noted that they had approached the land management department regarding the possible relocation of the fence on the side of Avtomobilna Street, which leads to the central entrance to the cemetery.

«The question arose regarding moving the fence and increasing the cemetery’s area. We raised this issue. The Land Department was preparing the relevant documents to determine whether this could be done. We put forward the proposal because the cemetery has reached its capacity,» said Serhii Vaseleha.

He also noted that the issue of burials in the honour section needs to be addressed.

«Particularly regarding the honour section, where both military personnel and distinguished citizens of Mykolaiv are buried. There is no space left there, but people are dying and something needs to be done. That is why there was a proposal to expand the grounds and possibly create an honour section there. It all depends on how they assess the situation,» noted the director of the funeral service.

As a reminder, the Land Resources Department has drafted a resolution for the Mykolaiv City Council to allocate a plot of land for the permanent use of the cemetery. This concerns the area near the Starovodopiiske Cemetery on Kazarskyi Street.

In 2021, the executive committee of the Mykolaiv City Council authorised reburials in several sectors of the municipal cemetery in the Inhulskyi district.

In 2025, it emerged that reclamation work was being carried out at the cemetery in the Ingulsky district. The municipal enterprise Mykolaiv Funeral Service commented at the time that the work was being carried out exclusively on neglected plots where no burials had taken place for over 20 years. It was also reported that the Mishkovske Cemetery is 90% full.
