There are 13 transport services operating in the Mykolaiv region for people with reduced mobility, helping them to reach medical, social, educational and other facilities.

This was announced by Oksana Yelchiieva, Director of the Department of Social Protection of the Population at the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, during a briefing, according to NikVesti.

According to her, the development of a barrier-free environment includes the creation of barrier-free routes in communities across the region.

In particular, such routes have already been established in Voznesensk and Nova Odesa. Civil society organisations and people with disabilities were involved in their development, helping to identify the most problematic areas and the needs of residents.

Oksana Yelchiieva also noted that there are 13 social taxi services operating in the region, providing transport for people who require assistance to get around.

«With the help of these services, people who need a social taxi can reach the location where the relevant services are provided. These may include educational, medical, social or legal services, as well as administrative service centres,» said Oksana Yelchiieva.

It was previously reported that there are 13 Resilience Centres operating in the Mykolaiv region, where people can receive social and psychological support, information on social services, as well as advice on employment and legal assistance.

As a reminder, in March, a social adaptation centre was opened in the Korabelnyi district of Mykolaiv with the support of the Danish government and the UNDP. The centre offers English and Ukrainian language classes, art therapy, psychological training, masterclasses, and a computer lab.
