This was reported during a briefing by Oksana Yelchieva, Director of the Department of Social Protection of the Population at the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, according to NikVesti.
«As for people with disabilities, there are currently inpatient wards operating in the region that provide inpatient care services to those requiring constant assistance from others. Today, around 2,000 people live in such facilities,» she said.
According to Oksana Yelchieva, around 400 residents of these facilities are internally displaced persons who have been evacuated from the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions. The relocation of people requiring care is also taking place within the Mykolaiv region.
In addition, with the support of the Social Protection Fund for Persons with Disabilities, an in-home care project called «Money Follows the Person» is being implemented in the region. It is currently operating in the Sofiivka territorial community and provides inpatient care services to internally displaced persons who require such support.
As a reminder, in the first four months of 2026, over 3 million hryvnias were allocated from the local budget in Mykolaiv for the care of elderly people and people with disabilities who require assistance.
Also, in two shelters for displaced persons in the Mykolaiv region — in Mishkovo-Pohorilove and Vesniane — repairs were carried out in the rooms and bathrooms, adapting them for people with disabilities.
The work was carried out as part of a project providing comprehensive support to evacuees, IDPs and communities affected by the war in the Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
