83% of the territory in the Mykolaiv region has already been cleared of mines

In the Mykolaiv region, around 83 per cent of the areas contaminated with mines and munitions following the full-scale invasion have now been cleared.

This was announced by Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, during an appearance on «Yedyni Novyny».

As of today, deminers have inspected and cleared over 700,000 hectares, he said. Most of this land has already been returned to cultivation.

«86 per cent of arable land is currently being cultivated. We have therefore already met our minimum target,» said Vitalii Kim.

He added that there are currently over a thousand deminers and 125 demining teams working in the region.

«We are continuing with demining, but the pace has slowed because there are still complex areas where we need to work with caution,» he explained.

Vitalii Kim also reported attempts to mine certain areas remotely. This mainly concerns transport routes and the communities near the Dnipro River — Kutsurub and Ochakiv.

«We are making targeted attempts at remote demining, but these are mainly transport routes and in the communities closest to the River Dnipro — namely, the Kutsurub and Ochakiv communities. Overall, this does not currently pose a threat,» he explained.

Over 30,000 explosive devices destroyed in the Mykolaiv region

As of January 2026, State Emergency Service bomb disposal experts in the Mykolaiv region had destroyed over 31,000 explosive devices since the start of the full-scale invasion. According to the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Mykolaiv region, bomb disposal experts have cleared a total area of 12  thousand 226 hectares, carrying out the work both manually and using mechanised teams. A total of 14,961 bomb disposal experts were involved in the operations.

In the Mykolaiv region, police bomb disposal experts found and defused the warhead of a Russian drone, which had failed to detonate upon impact. At the scene, experts from the bomb disposal unit discovered parts of a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle shot down by the Ukrainian Defence Forces, including a warhead that had failed to explode on impact.

As the munition posed a real threat to people’s lives and health, the police decided to neutralise it by means of a controlled detonation.
