The crime rate in Mykolaiv has fallen by almost 15 per cent over the past six months, according to the public prosecutor’s office

In the first six months of 2026, Mykolaiv recorded a fall in crime levels of almost 15 per cent. There was a reduction in the number of serious crimes, intentional homicides and property offences.

This is stated in a report by the Mykolaiv District Prosecutor’s Office on its work during the first half of 2026, according to NikVesti.

During this period, a total of 2,609 criminal offences were recorded across the city, which is 14.9 per cent fewer than during the same period last year.

In particular, the prosecutor’s office notes that:

• the number of serious and particularly serious crimes fell by 23.6 per cent (from 2,048 to 1,564);

• intentional homicides fell by 38.5 per cent (from 13 to 8);

• criminal offences against property fell by 22.1 per cent (from 648 to 505);

• intentional grievous bodily harm fell by 20 per cent (from 10 to 8).

The Public Prosecutor’s Office noted that during the first half of the year, prosecutors issued 1,012 written instructions to step up pre-trial investigations and rectify breaches. In addition, they overturned 196 unlawful decisions to close criminal proceedings, following which investigations into these cases were resumed.

It should be recalled that, in his report for 2025, the head of the regional prosecutor’s office, Ihor Domushchei, noted that an increase in the level of criminal offences had been recorded over the past year, although it remained below the national average.
