At Gymnasium №16 in Ternivka, a shelter is to be set up in the basement where the old boilers used to stand

At Gymnasium №16 in Ternivka, there are plans to set up a basic shelter in the basement, where the boiler room used to be. At present, there are two old boilers remaining there, which are due to be decommissioned.

This was revealed during a session of the Mykolaiv City Council on 24 September, according to NikVesti.

During the meeting, councillors considered the issue of decommissioning the two boilers, which are on the school’s balance sheet.

Hanna Lychko, Head of the Education Department at Mykolaiv City Council, explained that the equipment will no longer be used due to the construction of a new boiler house.

«The decommissioning is linked to the fact that a boiler house is currently being built on the grounds of Gymnasium «16, which will heat our building. Consequently, these boilers, which are located in the boiler house in the basement, must be decommissioned. We plan to build a simple shelter on the site where the boiler house used to be, where these boilers are currently located,» said Hanna Lychko.

According to the mayor, Oleksandr Sienkevych, the new boiler room will be located outside the school building. The school is currently operating online.

«We are currently conducting online lessons there, and a new boiler room will be installed, which will be situated outside this building. It is important that we are currently looking into the possibility of setting up a shelter there – including working with foreign partners — so that the children can return to this school as soon as possible,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

The mayor added that the city, together with «Mykolaivoblteploenergo», has already visited the site twice to discuss the installation of the new heating system.

It was previously reported that approximately 1.2–1.3 million hryvnias are needed to set up the shelter at Gymnasium №16. However, these funds are not available.
