In Mykolaiv, parents have complained about noise caused by renovation work on the shelter at Nursery School No. 148. According to them, the renovation work is preventing the children from resting during their afternoon nap.

This came to light during a staff meeting of the Mykolaiv City Council, NikVesti reports.

The mayor, Oleksandr Sienkevych, asked the head of the education department, Hanna Lychko, whether she was aware of complaints about the prolonged renovation work in the nursery’s shelter.

«People have approached me regarding the shelter at Nursery School №148. There’s a nursery group there, and the renovation work has been going on for a very long time: they’re scraping and banging away, disturbing the children’s rest.» Are you aware of this, and do you know who is carrying out the work there?» asked the mayor.

Hanna Lychko explained that a basic shelter had been set up in part of the nursery’s basement back in 2023. The rest of the premises is being renovated with support from UNICEF.

According to her, some of the renovation work has already been completed; the city is currently awaiting the delivery of furniture, after which they plan to open the shelter.

«We’ll just have to be patient a little longer,» said Hanna Lychko.

She added that UNICEF is also carrying out work to convert parts of the basements into basic shelters at four other pre-school education establishments in Mykolaiv.

Oleksandr Sienkevych asked to be provided with detailed information about the renovation and to arrange with UNICEF representatives for him to personally inspect the shelter at Nursery School №148.

«I would like to visit this shelter and see it for myself,» said the mayor.

It was previously reported that plans are in place to purchase 17 sets of inverters with rechargeable batteries for schools and nurseries in Mykolaiv. These will be installed in shelters, classrooms and premises equipped with autonomous heating systems.

The new equipment is due to be installed in the shelters at Gymnasium №36 and Lyceums №42 and №55, as well as at Nursery School №112 and Lyceum №53. A further number of sets will be supplied to Nursery Schools №143 and №148, the Academy of Children’s Creativity, secondary schools №4, №11, №31, №54, №56 and №57, and lyceums №34, №38 and №58.
