There is no land within the city’s boundaries that meets building regulations, so the city authorities have once again approached the Vesnyanska community.
This was announced on 27 October during a meeting of the Mykolaiv City Council's Committee on Housing and Communal Services by Ihor Nabatov, Deputy Director of the Department of Urban Economy.
According to him, the city is continuing to implement the court ruling, which sets out three main tasks: developing a reclamation project for the existing landfill, constructing a sorting line, and commencing construction of the new landfill.
The reclamation project is currently being developed by the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivkomuntrans». According to Ihor Nabatov, the enterprise has signed the relevant contract, and the city hopes to receive the finalised project by the end of 2026.
As for the new landfill site, the main obstacle remains the lack of a suitable plot of land. As the official explained, there is no land within the Mykolaiv city territorial community that meets state building regulations for the siting of a household waste landfill.
The city has therefore approached the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration. They recommended holding talks with neighbouring communities.
«We submitted a formal request to the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, where we were advised to liaise directly with the communities neighbouring the Mykolaiv City Territorial Community,» noted Ihor Nabatov.
Following this, Mykolaiv approached the Vesniane community but received no response.
«Just a few weeks ago, we resubmitted the relevant requests to both the military administration and the Vesniane community,» said Ihor Nabatov.
According to him, the city is considering the possibility of finding a suitable site within the Vesniane community, specifically near the existing solid waste landfill.
Earlier, Andrii Vetsalo, director of the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivkomuntrans», announced that the operational life of the city’s solid waste landfill had been extended until 1 July 2031. This was made possible through cooperation with specialist institutions.
In 2024, the territory of the Vesniane community had already been considered as a potential site for the construction of a new solid waste landfill for Mykolaiv.
