In Sumy Oblast, a law enforcement officer was arrested on suspicion of transmitting data about roadblocks and passwords to residents of border areas.
This was reported to the State Bureau of Investigation.
According to law enforcement officers, in February 2024, the suspect offered a local resident help in crossing the border area by car. He tried to take his things out of the war zone to a safer place.
«The law enforcement officer promised to provide information on the location of units, checkpoints of the Defense Forces and passwords for passage. The figure also threatened that in case of refusal, he would personally prevent the citizen from moving in the border areas,» the message reads.
The suspect managed to get 30,000 hryvnias from the man for the information provided over several months, starting in April 2024.
«The law enforcement officer is suspected of obtaining an illegal benefit, combined with extortion, and of disseminating information about the movement and location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (Part 3 of Article 368, Part 2 of Article 114 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the articles provides for punishment in the form of deprivation of liberty for a term of up to 10 years,» the SBI added.
