The Ministry of Health (MOH) predicts a shortage of personnel at the global level by 2030. Therefore, strategies are currently being developed to secure the system with employees.

The head of the Ministry of Health Viktor Liashko told about this in an interview with BBC Ukraine.

«It seems to me that no country in the world will say that we have enough doctors. If you look globally, there is basically a shortage of doctors,» he said.

According to Viktor Liashko, the next stage of the medical reform was not stopped even during the war due to the lack of personnel.

«We carried out hospital planning, divided hospitals according to their role in order to rationally calculate personnel resources and material and technical base,» explained the minister.

According to Viktor Liashko, there is a shortage of doctors in various fields in all regions.

«We can talk about psychiatrists and clinical psychologists, where a fairly large number of workers should be involved. If we talk about injuries, in particular about trauma, about neurotrauma, we will see that there is a problem with physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists,» he said.

Earlier, the head of the city's health care department, Iryna Shamrai, noted that many young medical specialists left Mykolaiv due to the war, which caused a shortage of a number of medical specialties in Mykolaiv medical institutions. According to her, primary care doctors have become the most scarce for the city today.
