In 2024, the National Health Service of Ukraine concluded a contract for the «Medical assistance for acute cerebral stroke» package with nine medical institutions of the Mykolaiv region.

This was reported by the press service of NHSU.

This means that they must provide patients with free care for acute strokes. There are five such hospitals in Mykolaiv, four more in the region:

  • in Bashtanka — KNP Bashtanka Multidisciplinary Hospital;
  • in Voznesensk — KNP Multidisciplinary Hospital of Voznesensk City Council;
  • in Mykolaiv — KNP City Hospital №1, City Hospital №4, City Hospital №5, Mykolaiv Regional Clinical Hospital and City Emergency Hospital;
  • in Novyi Bug — KNP Novyi Bug Multidisciplinary Hospital;
  • in Pervomaisk — KNP Pervomaisk Central City Multidisciplinary Hospital;

In general, during this year, medical institutions of the Mykolaiv Region provided assistance to 871 patients who applied with suspicion of an acute cerebral stroke.

Within the package, the patient can count on the following free medical services:

  • initial examination by a neurologist and/or neurosurgeon;
  • urgent neuroimaging (SCT or MRI);
  • laboratory and instrumental research 24/7;
  • thrombolytic therapy;
  • operative interventions to remove a blood clot;
  • provision of medicines;
  • rehabilitation assistance during the acute period, etc.

Medical assistance is provided free of charge both when an emergency (urgent) medical assistance team is delivered, and when a patient presents himself in an emergency. And also when transferred from another medical institution or structural unit of the hospital.

Cerebral stroke is an acute syndrome of impaired blood circulation in the brain, which leads to damage to part of the brain. Medical assistance for a stroke is free of charge. Its cost is paid by the National Health Service of Ukraine in institutions that have a contract for the relevant package.

«The National Health Service pays medical institutions from 15,643 to 131,472 thousand hryvnias per treated case, depending on the complexity and necessity of thrombolytic therapy and endovascular interventions. Tariffs are calculated in such a way that the service is free of charge for the patient. Payments cover both the price of consumables and the work of a team of competent specialists. This year, the medical institutions of the Mykolaiv region received more than 10 million hryvnias for providing assistance in case of acute cerebral stroke. Medical institutions receive all payments on time and in full,» explained the head of the Southern Interregional Department of the National Health Service of Ukraine, Denys Chornyi.

We will remind you that the number of strokes among the residents of Mykolaiv has increased. This is primarily due to the increase in the population in the city and increased anxiety.
