On 6 May, Mykolaiv hosted the 46th traditional «Mykolaiv Mile — 1609 m», dedicated to the memory of Viktor Dobrovolskyi, Honoured Coach of Ukraine.

This was reported by NikVesti.

The competition was held as part of the Mykolaiv Oblast One-Mile Running Championship. Athletes of all ages took part in the tournament.

The only exception was 2022, when the competition did not take place for safety reasons due to Russia’s full-scale invasion. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament was held online.

This year, 60-metre children’s races were added to the programme to mark World Children’s Athletics Day, which is celebrated on 7 May. A single one-mile combined relay was also held for the first time.

«This is an interesting discipline that we plan to develop further. The main programme of the competition consists of one-mile races — this time there will be six of them,» said Volodymyr Kiliarskyi, President of the Mykolaiv Region Athletics Federation and Chief Judge of the «Mykolaiv Mile».

He noted that the tournament is a sporting showcase for the Mykolaiv region, as it brings together not only local athletes but also representatives from other cities, regions, sports clubs and schools.
