Mykolaiv natives have developed a guide to learning the Ukrainian language for foreigners: «With texts about the hero city, Arkas and Aktove Canyon»

In Mykolaiv, a bilingual guide was created for studying the Ukrainian language at the B1-B2 level, in which students are introduced to the culture and history of the region.

The presentation of the manual «Ukrainian language as a foreign language based on the materials of the Mykolaiv Oblast» took place on Wednesday, February 21, Olha Tulusakova, a philologist and head of the Department of Journalism at Petro Mohyla National University of Ukraine, told NikVesti.

According to the philologist and co-author of the manual, the vocabulary and grammatical material will help in mastering the language at the B1-B2 level. In addition, a dictionary of new words and test tasks are added to each text.

«The manual is more for learning the Ukrainian language, but it can also be used as a book for reading. What is his interest? He is bilingual. There is a text in Ukrainian and immediately its translation. And there is a dictionary. The manual is designed for the B1-B2 level, we can actually try to understand, according to some norms and requirements, which words will be unclear. This does not mean that we got to 100%, but we tried to do it,» said Olha Tulusakova.

The basis of the structure of the manual are the texts of the Mykolaiv historian and the first vice-rector of the Petro Mohyla National University Yurii Kotliar, which were adapted for learning the language in a simplified form. In this way, the authors reveal in detail the cultural features of Mykolaiv Oblast.

«All texts are about Mykolaiv Oblast and Mykolaiv. Culture, nature, for example, Aktiv Canyon or Bug Gard National Nature Park. The vast majority of the vocabulary used in the texts is useful for those who learn Ukrainian. Words can be substituted for any city, as if Mykolaiv Oblast is the basis, but the vocabulary is universal. That is, it is about the popularization of the Ukrainian language and the Mykolaiv region,» the philologist added.

She also notes that the idea of creating a guide with an emphasis on the Mykolaiv Oblast also belongs to Yurii Kotliar.

«There are such manuals based on the general Ukrainian culture and history, and Yurii Vadimovych said that it is a good idea to use our region as a basis — this is its uniqueness. The book was published with the support of the Mykolaiv City Council. We will provide copies to libraries, universities and other cultural institutions for free, but you cannot purchase them in printed form, because this is such a free project. But they will be in an electronic version, » said Olha Tulusakova.

The philologist-accentologist Serhii Ponomarenko also worked with the texts.

«Serhii Serhiiovych, in particular, placed the emphasis. In fact, it is very important, since these are texts to read, to put the emphasis correctly. People have a hard time with accents because they are mobile. Even we, Ukrainian-speakers, sometimes find it difficult,» the philologist noted.

Two Mykolaiv philologists, Marharyta Lymar and Viktoriia Ahieieva-Karkashadze, worked on the translation of the manual, and the artist Yuliia Polishchuk illustrated it.

We will also remind: Doctor of historical sciences, professor, head of the history department of Petro Mohyla National University Yurii Kotliar told the townspeople about the history of the sacred centers of Mykolaiv.
