Hidden cameras near the seaport: a resident of Mykolaiv is suspected of working for the Russian Federation

Law enforcement officers detained an employee of a local company who installed webcams near the Mykolaiv Seaport to spy on the ships of the Armed Forces. He faces life imprisonment.

According to the SSU of the Mykolaiv region, an agent of the Russian special services was collecting intelligence about the Defense Forces near the Black Sea. He monitored warships as well as merchant marine vessels exporting agricultural products.

The video devices were supposed to show the Russians a continuous online broadcast of the water area, which they planned to use for airstrikes in the region.

As the investigation established, another of his tasks was to identify ground facilities of the Defense Forces, including military hospitals, training centers and checkpoints.

However, the man was caught red-handed when he tried to install another webcam overlooking the river.

According to the investigation, the Russian agent turned out to be an employee of a local company, who was recruited by the special service of the Russian Federation at the end of 2023.

He came to the attention of the occupiers because of his activity in pro-Kremlin Telegram channels, where he endorsed armed aggression against Ukraine. In the future, the agent communicated with his Russian curator through an anonymous chat in the messenger.

During the search, they found a mobile phone with evidence of his communication with Russia. Tools for mounting video cameras and their boxes were also discovered.

So far, the man has been informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law). He is in custody and faces life imprisonment.

We will remind, pro-Russian blogger Yurii Podoliaka, who directed enemy missiles at Mykolaiv, was sentenced in absentia to 15 years behind bars.

The millionaire blogger is involved in correcting the massive missile and artillery attacks of the Russian Federation on the Mykolayiv region. In order to target the enemy's weapons on the city, he received intelligence from his informant, Hennadii Herman, former investigator of the Mykolaiv District Prosecutor's Office, who is serving a life sentence for treason.

Hennadii Herman: what is known

On June 28, Hennadii Herman was found guilty of treason. In January, during the court session, the traitorous prosecutor admitted that he had directed fire at the building of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.

According to law enforcement officers, Hennadii Herman, former chief of the Mykolaiv District Prosecutor's Office, transferred to the special services of the Russian Federation at the request of curators information about the consequences of shelling in the Mykolaiv region, the number of dead and wounded, passwords for passing through checkpoints, personal data of military personnel, recorded the work of the State Emergency Service on the elimination of shelling, collected and provided information about the place of deployment military units.
