The Department of Housing and Communal Services of Mykolaiv hopes that the city will cope with power outages: heat suppliers are monitoring the temperature in the networks, and key facilities are equipped with generators and fuel.

As stated by the Director of the Department of Housing and Communal Services of Mykolaiv, Dmytro Bezdolnyi, during a briefing today, 22 January, there will be no collapse in the communal sector, as in Kyiv, according to NikVesti.

«Utility workers are doing everything they can. Even now, there are prolonged power outages in the city. Our heat suppliers are planning to turn on generators and are calculating the temperature regime so that the networks do not freeze. That is, when the schedules change, they will adjust their work. I don't think that, unless something serious happens, we won't be able to cope with the city. Everything will be fine, there will be heat in the houses, and we will somehow cope with other problems. The enterprises have fuel reserves, we have prepared for this and there are reserves,» said Dmytro Bezdolnyi.

According to the official, if the situation worsens, the city may switch to a so-called «survival mode», although critical facilities are provided with backup power.

«Look, in previous years, let's say, the approved temperature regime was lowered because it is quite difficult to maintain comfortable conditions in homes under such working conditions. So everything will again depend on the circumstances. If external conditions allow, the indicators will be better. If not, it will be survival mode. All enterprises are equipped with generators, have fuel reserves, and key facilities are provided for — these are water supply, water pumping, main pumping stations, boiler rooms, and so on. Waste transporters are also ready. This means that the city should not suffer in any way. Cogeneration is working: it is not yet possible to feed surplus electricity into the grid everywhere, but it is already being used for our own needs. Currently, about 70% of such installations are in operation,» added Dmytro Bezdolnyi.

Earlier, First Deputy Mayor Vitalii Lukov said that Mykolaiv is ready for possible power outages. In particular, they are checking the points of resilience.

As of today, the region has received orders to disconnect 10 stages according to emergency shutdown schedules, which are superimposed on planned restrictions. According to Vitalii Kim, this is due to network overload and problems with the transit of electricity from the western regions of Ukraine to the east, in particular imported electricity.

Earlier, Vitalii Kim apologised to the residents of Mykolaiv for the frequent power outages and noted that it is currently impossible to influence the situation.
