The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, said that within the framework of the Czech initiative, they will be able to deliver 1.5 million artillery shells to Ukraine within a year.
This is reported by Bloomberg.
According to him, about twenty countries joined the initiative, including Germany, the Netherlands, Canada and Poland.
«We believe that there will be further deliveries. There's no reason why we can't deliver another million over the next 12 months,» he said.
As you know, more than 15 countries cooperate with the Czech initiative. In addition, the Ramstein-style meeting in March noted that the Czech initiative has inspired two other countries to follow the same approach as the Czech Republic, i.e. to procure ammunition from non-EU and non-NATO countries through bilateral cooperation with donor countries. They have managed to find other possible supplies of ammunition and are now looking for partners to pay for the supplies.
It will be recalled that in February, the President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel announced that the country had found a source of supply of 800,000 shells for Ukraine from abroad. However, the delivery process requires financing.
It recently became known that Western partners have already collected funds for the purchase of 300,000 projectiles for Ukraine at the initiative of the Czech Republic.
After that, the Czech Republic received preliminary approval for the purchase of an additional 200,000 shells in addition to the purchase of 300,000 artillery ammunition.
