Less than 10% of shelters are inclusive in Ukraine

In Ukraine, there are less than 10% of inclusive shelters to which people with disabilities and groups with reduced mobility have unimpeded access.

This was announced by Deputy Minister for Strategic Industries Tymur Tkachenko, Ukrinform reports.

«The situation with shelters in Ukraine is not very encouraging. We have less than 10% of properties that are inclusive. The total fund of shelters is about 60,000 objects, of which only 5,000 objects are inclusive,» Tymur Tkachenko said.

He noted that arranging inclusive access to shelters is the responsibility of local authorities. No money will be allocated from the budget for this separately: the owners of civil defense protective structures should plan their budgets in such a way as not only to repair the shelters, but also to add inclusive elements.

«We have created a Barrier-Free Council. First Lady Olena Zelenska, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal are dealing with this issue. There is even Tetiana Lomakina, an authorized adviser to the President of Ukraine on barrier-free issues,» he noted.

The official reminded that new norms for the construction of shelters have been approved in Ukraine.

«Today, all shelters that are built and reconstructed must necessarily be inclusive. This is very important, because there are many people with disabilities and there will be more of them, because we have a full-scale war going on,» Tymur Tkachenko said.

We will remind you that in the course of 2024, 65 shelters are planned to be installed in educational institutions of the Bashtanka district of the Mykolaiv region.

It was previously reported that the court ordered the company to bring the anti-radiation shelter in compliance with the Ochakiv community.

During the study of the state of the civil defense facilities, experts found that the anti-radiation shelter, which is owned by the enterprise and is designed for about 200 people, is kept in an improper condition. Because of this, it could not be used for its intended purpose, and the owner of the premises did not repair it.
