The Verkhovna Rada passed the first reading of the draft law, which provides for the release of military personnel from criminal liability for the first voluntary abandonment of a military unit (VAMU) or desertion.

People's deputies Iryna Herashchenko and Oleksii Honcharenko informed about it.

«During the war, it is proposed to exempt military personnel from criminal liability for the first offense (voluntarily leaving a military unit or desertion), if they voluntarily return to service and receive written consent from the commander,» wrote Iryna Herashchenko.

In addition, according to the deputies, draft law №11322 is being prepared for the second reading, when it will be finally adopted.

«The bill is being prepared for the second session, then it will be finally adopted. A very important decision. The VAMU are not only those who do not want to fight, but also thousands of broken destinies of absolutely normal people. We must give them the opportunity to return to normal life and continue to defend Ukraine,» Oleksii Honcharenko explained.

We will remind that 750 billion hryvnias will be allocated for payments to military personnel in 2024. Another 265 billion hryvnias will be allocated to the purchase, production and repair of weapons.
