Members of the Mykolaiv City Council have approved the transfer of 755,000 hryvnias from the city budget to the Mykolaiv region to cover the costs of Maternity Hospital №3, which had previously been transferred to regional ownership.
The decision was taken on 29 October during a session of the city council, according to NikVesti.
The funds are needed to pay for expenses incurred before the facility was transferred to the region. Specifically, these include medicines, dressings, services and heating.
During the meeting, the mayor, Oleksandr Sienkevych, reminded councillors that the city had agreed to cover these costs.
«Let me remind you that we transferred the maternity hospital to regional ownership. And according to our agreements, we were obliged to provide additional funding up until the moment we handed it over. We are transferring funds to them to cover its running costs,» explained Oleksandr Sienkevych.
Twenty-nine councillors voted in favour of the resolution, whilst two abstained. At the end of the session, the mayor emphasised that the decisions taken regarding hospitals were vital for the payment of medical staff’s salaries.
«Today, these issues did not concern, as we like to say, some self-serving motives. They concerned the salaries of medical staff, ordinary people who needed the reorganisation process to be completed so they could receive their salaries,» said the mayor.
As a reminder, the city council’s relevant committee had previously approved the transfer of 754,800 hryvnias to Maternity Hospital №3.
The maternity hospital itself was transferred to the regional authorities in April 2026. Subsequently, a regional perinatal centre was established on its premises.
