In his statement, he criticised former President Joe Biden's tactics towards Ukraine.
«"Russia has been saying for years that NATO cannot intervene in Ukraine. It was like it was carved in stone. And then Biden broke that and said no, they should be able to join NATO. Then Russia would have someone right on their doorstep. I can understand their feelings about that», Donald Trump said.
He also commented on a possible meeting with Putin. Trump stressed that he would not say when it would happen, but he allegedly knows that Putin definitely wants to meet. At the same time, he believes it would be inappropriate to meet before the inauguration on 20 January, but says many young people are becoming soldiers and dying every day.
«This is a war that should never have happened. I guarantee you, if I were president, this war would never have happened», Trump reiterated.
Earlier, US President-elect Donald Trump suggested that European countries deploy their troops in Ukraine to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire.
