Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, AP photoUS President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he is preparing a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but did not specify a specific date for the talks.
According to Reuters , during a speech to Republican governors at his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, Donald Trump said that Vladimir Putin had expressed a desire to meet, and preparations for this meeting were underway.
Donald Trump did not name a specific date for the talks, but confirmed that the meeting was being discussed.
«President Putin wants to meet. He's even said it publicly, and we have to end this war», Donald Trump added, referring to the war in Ukraine.
The Kremlin has not yet commented on Donald Trump's statement. However, Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters the day before that if Trump remains committed to contacting the Russian ruler after the inauguration on 20 January, Moscow would welcome it.
Earlier, Donald Trump said that the conflict in the Middle East was easier to resolve than the war in Ukraine. But later he emphasised his hope to end the war in Ukraine in six months.
