Ukraine’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha, stated that the decision on a change of president must be made by the Ukrainian people. This was his response to US President Donald Trump’s statement that it was time for Ukraine to elect a new leader.

The Foreign Minister wrote about this on social media platform X.

«President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is leading our people in times of war — a war for independence, freedom and dignity. He has the support of the Ukrainian people, and it is the people who have the right to make decisions,» said Andrii Sybiha.

Prior to this, Russia had restricted diesel fuel exports against the backdrop of Ukrainian strikes on oil refineries and difficulties in supplying its own market. According to Reuters estimates published on 15 September, three of Russia’s six largest diesel producers had significantly reduced or completely halted production following drone attacks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticised the easing of US sanctions without an agreement on de-escalation. He stated that this would give Russia additional resources to continue the war. At the same time, Zelensky noted that he would support the easing of energy sanctions provided there was a mutual cessation of strikes on energy facilities in Ukraine and Russia for the winter.
