The European Union has extended sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine for another 6 months. They will be valid until January 31, 2025.

This was reported by the Council of the European Union.

It is indicated that the first sanctions were implemented back in 2014, but after February 2022 they were significantly expanded due to the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

What is included in the sanctions package:

  • restrictions on trade, finance, technology and dual-use goods;
  • a ban on the import or transfer by sea of crude oil and certain petroleum products from Russia to the EU;
  • de-SWIFT for several Russian banks;
  • suspension of broadcasts and broadcasting licenses in the EU of several Kremlin-backed media outlets.

In addition, the European Union implemented measures to prevent the aggressor country from circumventing the restrictions.

We will remind that on June 24, the Council of the EU approved the 14th package of economic and individual restrictive sanctions against Russia.
