Sanctions against the Russian Federation are a set of restrictive measures imposed by the international community in response to Russia's violations of international law and aggression against Ukraine. Key reasons for these sanctions include the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the full-scale invasion in 2022. The sanctions include economic restrictions, such as bans on trade and financial transactions, personal sanctions (asset freezes and travel bans on high-ranking officials), as well as sectoral restrictions on technology exports. The goal of these sanctions is to compel Russia to cease its aggressive actions, weaken its economic capacity to fund the war, and restore Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
