A group of 50 US senators from the Republican and Democratic parties has proposed a bill that would impose sanctions on Russia if it refuses to negotiate with Ukraine or attempts to undermine its sovereignty after a peace deal is concluded.

This was reported by Reuters and the Washington Times.

The authors of the initiative were Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal.

It is noted that the bill provides for the imposition of primary and secondary sanctions against Russia and those who support its aggression against Ukraine. One of the key provisions is the introduction of 500 per cent duties on imports of goods from countries that buy Russian oil, gas, uranium and other resources.

Earlier, President Donald Trump has already announced the possibility of strengthening sanctions against Russia.

In recent days, the Trump administration has been discussing the possibility that the United States will not be able to reach a peace agreement on Ukraine in the coming months. In this regard, new mechanisms are being developed to put pressure on both Kyiv and Moscow.
