Lithuania can refuse to grant residence permits to men from Ukraine if Ukraine proves that they are exempt from military service.
This was stated by the Prime Minister of Lithuania, Ingrida Šimonyte, reports the Financial Times.
She noted that Lithuania will not deport the evaders, as the EU has guaranteed them protection until March 2025. However, they may be denied permanent residence.
«We will not organize deportation or look for Ukrainian men in the country, because it would not be legal. But Lithuania really wants to help Ukraine so that it has the potential to renew its armed forces and so that people who have been fighting for a long time can rest,» said Ingrida Šimonyte.
Earlier, the Vice Prime Minister of Hungary Zolt Semien said that the country will not send citizens of military age to Ukraine.
