President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed diplomats to create a coalition of neighboring states of Ukraine that would agree to shoot down Russian missiles flying in their direction over Ukrainian territory.
He told journalists about this, Interfax-Ukraine cites.
First of all, NATO countries can join the coalition. For this purpose, within the framework of the «Ukraine-NATO» council, they are already planning a meeting where they can discuss this issue.
According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, such a mechanism should have been developed a long time ago, and Ukraine now «very much lacks» such a coalition. However, he admitted that for neighboring countries, shooting down Russian missiles would be a big responsibility, and the decision on this would probably be «difficult for partners, because they are always afraid of unnecessary escalation.»
It will be recalled that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the first Western F-16 fighter jets have already arrived in Ukraine.
