Another ₴54.4 million to be spent on repair of Varvarivskyi Bridge in Mykolaiv by the end of 2026

The Infrastructure Restoration and Development Service in Mykolaiv Oblast plans to spend UAH 54.4 million to repair part of the Varvarovsky Bridge. The work is to be completed by the end of December 2026.

First, the contractor will have to carry out preparatory work: dismantle the old road surface, railings, expansion joints and the bridge foundation, dismantle drainage drains and lighting poles. After that, he will lay a new road surface and expansion joints, install railings and curbs, make lighting, new markings, etc.

As a reminder, repairs to the Varvarivskyi Bridge in Mykolaiv are currently underway. 46.3 million hryvnias is being spent on these works from September 2024 to December 2025. A total of 44 million hryvnias was spent on bridge repairs last year.

On 22 April, a significant traffic jam formed at the entrance to the Varvarivskyi Bridge from Varvarovka due to the repair work. In a comment to NikVesti, Vitalii Dushko, a spokesman for the Mykolaiv Oblast Patrol Police Department, said that the metal plate that covers the seam on the bridge's drawbridge is periodically deformed — this time it was bent again.

Varvarivskyi bridge

At a meeting on 13 October 2023, the government decided to transfer Inhulskyi and Varvarivskyi bridges in Mykolaiv to state ownership. After that, the then Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Mustafa Naiiem spoke about plans to repair the bridges.

In 2023, the bridge suffered several breakdowns. The first occurred on 6 December, the second on 20 December. At that time, «ELU of Roads» reported that there was an emergency with the structure of a part of the Varvarivskyi Bridge. The third traffic collapse occurred due to the breakdown of a part of Varvarivskyi Bridge on 2 February 2024. On 5 April, the bridge broke down for the fourth time. It turned out that a metal plate had come off the bridge.

It was also reported earlier that after the repair work on Varvarivskyi Bridge is completed, reverse traffic will be launched.
