The first inclusive driving school will appear in Mykolaiv — it will work on the basis of ChNU

In Mykolaiv, preparations are underway for the opening of a driving school adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. The educational institution will work on the basis of the Black Sea National University named after Petro Mohyla.

Tetyana Dombrovska, a member of the Mykolayiv City Council, told about this on the air of the «Dialog» program on the «MART» TV channel.

She was approached with a request to implement a similar project back in the summer. As of October, the organizers of the school received 4 cars, which will be converted for people with disabilities, taking into account their capabilities and needs.

— People with disabilities and hearing impairments approached us and said that they really want to have a driver's license and learn to drive a car. Unfortunately, there was no such thing in Mykolaiv, and we took up this issue. Today we have 4 cars, one of them came from donors from Lithuania, has already been converted, we have to equip 3 more, — said Tetiana Dombrovska.

The classes will be held on the basis of the Black Sea National University, says Tetiana Dombrovska. The institution already has furnished rooms with separate desks.

— We talked with the Black Sea National University today and they kindly provided a room where theory classes will be held. According to the barrier-free directory, the university has equipped rooms, you can drive there. I know that negotiations are underway to install an elevator so that people can go up safely. Desks should stand separately so that people in wheelchairs are comfortable, — the deputy added.

Currently, 20 people are already registered on the waiting list. The preparations took longer than planned, but the school will soon start functioning.

In Ukraine, with the support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, such schools have already been opened in Lviv, Dnipro, Kryvyy Rih.

All the cars that the school received came from Lithuania and Sweden from donors, and the conversion is done by public organizations and philanthropists who support the people of Mykolaiv and provide the city with such opportunities to implement similar projects.

We will remind you that in June in Mykolaiv, the conference «Barrier-free Ukraine» was held, where the «Barrier-free Handbook» was presented.

Mykolaiv City Council deputy Yurii Stepanets said at the time that the city government should focus more attention on barrier-free and accessible city infrastructure for people with disabilities.
