Ukraine and the Netherlands discussed cooperation in providing drinking water and irrigation for the south of the country.
This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba after a meeting with the special representative of the Netherlands, Eric Schouten, the Uriahdovyi portal reports.
«Ukraine seeks to take advantage of the experience of the Netherlands in creating accessible urban spaces and water management, which will help ensure drinking water and irrigation for the southern regions of Ukraine,» said Oleksii Kuleba.
Ukraine is also counting on help in preparing a master plan for the water infrastructure of communities affected by the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP.
It was previously reported that Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine — Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine, during a conversation with a representative of the European Investment Bank, mentioned that currently the water supply system for Mykolaiv «needs active reconstruction.»
This is already the second such «statement» of the ministry about water supply in Mykolaiv. Before that, the former Minister of Community Development and Territories Oleksandr Kubrakov mentioned this issue. In March 2024, he promised that «a decision will be made in the coming weeks.»
The President's Office also mentioned the construction of a water pipeline for Mykolaiv in their posts — first they announced the decision to «accelerate the start of construction» of the water pipeline from New Odesa, and then they reported that they were looking for a «form of cooperation» with the EIB so that they would provide funds for the construction.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Ruslan Strelets, also wrote about water supply, who said that the issue of high-quality water for Mykolaiv is under the personal control of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
