Despite the ongoing demining process, the Mykolaiv region still remains one of the regions of Ukraine most contaminated by explosive objects. And a large number of mines, unexploded shells and other explosives continue to threaten the lives of local residents.

Rescuers advise local residents to strictly follow safety instructions to avoid serious injury or even death due to detonation of the mine. NikVesti provides step-by-step instructions and infographics on what to do in case of detection of an explosive object.

I found something that looks like a mine: what to do?

Stop, don't touch, move away

When a suspicious object is discovered, first of all, it is necessary to stop and calm down, the State Emergency Service says. Next, you should report the danger to those nearby and check if there are ropes or wires around. In no case should you approach a suspicious object or move it from its place. Instead, you should move to a safe distance (at least 100 meters) in the same way you were walking before.

Mark the place and notify the rescuers

The places where the explosive object was detected should be memorized, marked with improvised means and placed at a safe distance. Provide detailed information about the found object by calling 101, 102 or 112. Rescuers warn that it is better to move away from a dangerous object to make a call. It is strictly forbidden to use a mobile phone nearby. And then — wait for the arrival of specialists, indicate the location of the find and notify the time of its discovery.

After all, you can remember three simple rules in case of encountering an explosive object: do not approach, do not touch, call 101.

Disposal is a matter for specialists

It should be remembered that almost all explosive substances are sensitive to mechanical and sound effects, heating. Handling them requires maximum attention and care. Therefore, only trained pyrotechnicians or other specialists can defuse an explosive device or localize an explosion after removing people from the danger zone.
