The UNESCO team is already working on documenting the damage after the rocket attack on the historic centre of Odesa last night.

They reported this on their Facebook page.

Together with the Ukrainian authorities, the first steps are being taken to respond to the situation. At least two buildings, which are part of the World Heritage Site, were damaged.

«UNESCO condemns the rocket attack on the World Heritage Site, the historic centre of Odesa, last night, which caused serious damage to at least two cultural buildings protected by UNESCO Conventions,» the statement said.

UNESCO notes that such attacks violate international law and threaten the preservation of cultural heritage. In the near future, the organisation will send a mission to assess the damage and assist in the restoration of these facilities.

As you know, on the evening of 31 January, the Russian army attacked the historic centre of Odesa. As of the evening, two people were reported injured.

Odesa Mayor Hennadii said that about 15 cultural heritage monuments were damaged as a result of the 31 January missile attack on the historic centre.

Earlier it was reported that the boundaries of the historic centre will be expanded in Odesa: it will be included in the UNESCO list.
