A Mykolaiv court has sentenced a local resident to 10 years in prison for passing information about military facilities to the Russians. The man was detained in November 2023 when he was spying on Ukrainian airfields and transmitting data via anonymous chat.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine in Mykolaiv region.

According to the SSU, a 35-year-old unemployed resident of Mykolaiv collected data on the locations and movements of the Ukrainian military. His FSS handlers were most interested in military airfields with combat aircraft. The man sought information through personal contacts, open sources and personal observations, took photos and sent them to the enemy with geolocation.

The investigation found that he came to the attention of Russian special services in the spring of 2023 after posting anti-Ukrainian comments on Telegram. One of his contacts was pro-Kremlin blogger Serhii Lebedev («Lohmatyi»), who works for the Russian special services from occupied Donetsk.

The SSU detained the informant in his apartment. During the search, they seized a mobile phone with evidence of cooperation with the FSS. The court found him guilty under Part 3 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorised dissemination of information about the Armed Forces of Ukraine).

As a reminder, the prosecutor's office recently brought to court the case of a 43-year-old resident of Mykolaiv, who is accused of high treason.
