Ukraine drops to 111th place in the world happiness ranking

Ukraine was ranked 111th in the World Happiness Report 2024, down six positions from last year. The country received 4.68 points out of 10 possible. Ukraine's highest result was in 2012 (87th place), and the worst was in 2017 (138th place).

This is stated in the annual World Happiness Report, the BBC reports.

There are 147 countries in the ranking. Finland has become the happiest country in the world for the eighth year in a row. The top five countries are: Finland — 7.736 points, Denmark — 7.521, Iceland — 7.515, Sweden — 7.345, and the Netherlands — 7.306.

The top 20 also includes Lithuania, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic, which are the happiest countries in Central and Eastern Europe. The United States remains outside the top 20 for the second year in a row, ranking 24th.

The lowest level of happiness was recorded in Afghanistan (1.364 points), followed by Sierra Leone, Lebanon, Malawi and Zimbabwe.

The World Happiness Report is based on the average life scores in 147 countries for 2022-2024. It takes into account: GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom and corruption, as well as the generosity of society.

We would like to remind you that the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology conducted a survey of Ukrainians about their feelings towards the current government. The respondents said they were mostly disappointed.
