Private transport operators have sent letters regarding a proposed increase in minibus fares in Mykolaiv. However, it is too early to talk about a fare change.
This was stated in a comment to NikVesti by Oleh Kuksa, head of the Transport, Communications and Telecommunications Department of Mykolaiv City Council.
Carriers are proposing to increase fares due to rising fuel costs. But these proposals are currently being considered by the city council.
«We have received requests from private transport operators. These are currently being processed by the pricing department,» said Oleh Kuksa.
The municipal enterprise Mykolaivpastrans operates on bus routes. However, Oleg Kuksa noted that no letters regarding the need to change fares had been received from municipal enterprises.
It should be recalled that the cost of travel on the city’s municipal buses was increased last year. Since 1 March, a journey on Mykolaivpastrans buses has cost 15 hryvnias.
Also, NikVesti reported that from 1 April, bus fares will change in Pivdennoukrainsk and Nova Odesa. The price rise is linked, in particular, to the increase in fuel costs.
It should be noted that fuel prices began to rise in Ukraine in early March.
The Cabinet of Ministers currently has no plans to introduce strict state regulation of fuel and food prices, despite their rising costs. The Government believes that the most important thing is to prevent a shortage in the market. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko attributed the rise in fuel and food prices to the impact of the war in Iran.
Also, NikVesti reported that Mykolaiv remains one of the Ukrainian cities with the most affordable public transport fares. Despite the increase in electric transport fares, travel within the city is still cheaper than in most regional centres.
