Members of the Mykolaiv City Council supported a decision to transfer two school buses, with a total value of around 8 million hryvnias, into the city’s municipal ownership free of charge.

This was discussed during a meeting of the Mykolaiv City Council on Thursday, 14 May, according to NikVesti.

According to Tetiana Dmytrova, deputy head of the municipal property department, the buses will be transferred from the joint ownership of the territorial communities of the Mykolaiv region to the city’s municipal ownership for the needs of the education department.

«The draft decision proposes to grant consent for the transfer, free of charge, from the joint ownership of the territorial communities of villages, towns and cities in the Mykolaiv region to the municipal ownership of the Mykolaiv City Territorial Community of two school buses with a total value of approximately 8 million hryvnias, and their transfer on a usufruct basis to the Department of Education. We have the region’s consent, so I ask for your support,» said Tetiana Dmytrova.

Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych explained that the buses will be used to transport children from remote areas and neighbourhoods where schools cannot operate in person.

«This is a programme under which we co-financed the purchase, I believe, on a 50-50 basis. These buses were transferred to us so that we could transport children from remote areas or neighbourhoods where there are no schools or where they are unable to operate in person, to the nearest educational institutions,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

Following the vote, the decision was supported by 30 councillors.

It should be noted that in 2026, communities in the Mykolaiv region have the opportunity to purchase 40 school buses on a 50-50 co-financing basis. Currently, there is interest in purchasing 12 buses. According to Alla Velikhovska, Director of the Department of Education and Science at the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, the limit for the purchase of buses has been set at 40 vehicles.

It should be recalled that six communities in the Mykolaiv region will receive specialised school buses. Two of these are in Mykolaiv. They are to be transferred to the communal ownership of the communities. The total cost of the buses amounted to almost 27 million hryvnias.

It was previously reported that in 2025, the Mykolaiv region will be allocated 19.7 million hryvnias in subsidies from the state budget for the purchase of school buses. The buses were to be specially equipped to transport people with reduced mobility, with space for accompanying persons and wheelchair spaces.
