The windows in the building on Kurortna Street have still not been repaired following the attack — Mykolaiv City Council says there is no money

In Mykolaiv, residents of the block of flats at 2a Kurortna Street are asking for the windows in the entrance halls to be repaired, having been damaged during an attack back in January 2025. The city council replied that there is currently no money in the budget for this work.

Svitlana Zhabrovets, a resident of the building, wrote about the problem in the Contact Centre group linked to Mykolaiv City Council.

According to her, the building was damaged on the night of 21–22 January 2025. Two entrance halls, housing 40 flats, were damaged, as were ten windows in communal areas.

Following the attack, the window openings were sealed with slabs. However, residents say this is not enough to properly protect the building from the cold and damp.

«The building’s thermal insulation has been compromised, and many children and pensioners live there. With no windows in the entrance halls, damp is getting in, leading to mould on the walls and the deterioration of the walls and utilities,» wrote Svitlana Zhabrovets.

She also noted that the residents are unable to pay for the repairs themselves. Back on 25 May, they sent a letter to this effect to the Department of Municipal Services. According to Svitlana Zhabrovets, the windows in neighbouring buildings, which were damaged during the same attack, have already been replaced.

The city council explained that, at present, Mykolaiv’s budget does not have the financial capacity to cover the cost of replacing windows in communal areas. The damaged openings had previously been covered with OSB boards, and the building itself has been added to the list of properties requiring restoration.

«The replacement of windows at the city’s expense will take place provided the necessary funding is allocated,» states the response from the city’s sustainable development department.

The city council also explained that in neighbouring buildings, windows were not replaced using the city budget, but with the help of international donor and charitable organisations.

The building at 2a Kurortna Street has also been referred to partners as a property in need of restoration. At the same time, the city council emphasised that it is the charitable organisations themselves that decide which buildings they will restore and in what order.

It should be recalled that at the end of May, NikVesti reported on a similar situation in a neighbouring building at 4 Kurortna Street. Residents complained that, nearly a year after the Russian shelling, the shattered windows in the entrance hall remained covered with OSB boards.

According to the residents, the damaged window openings were temporarily sealed with slabs following the shelling, but a full-scale restoration was never carried out. Furthermore, the residents requested repairs to the third entrance hall, where the walls, ceiling and communal areas had been damaged.

At the time, residents of other buildings in Mykolaiv damaged by shelling also reported similar problems, particularly on Velyka Morska Street and Vitaliy Bohonka Street.
